Shortie Friends began in 2022 with two corgis, Gorky and Lachlan.

They were the inspiration behind both our store name and logo. Like many small businesses, we started from something very simple: a love for our own pets and a desire to find better products for them.

At the beginning, Shortie Friends was only a side project. Both my husband and I were working full-time jobs while running the store after work. We realised the Australian pet market was quite isolated compared to overseas markets. There were so many amazing international pet brands creating products with next-level design, combining both fashion and functionality, yet many of them were difficult to find locally in Australia. We operated entirely online and used our home garage as our first warehouse. That’s where everything started.

We wanted to bring high-quality, unique, and thoughtfully designed pet products to Australian pet owners. Most of the products we carry are branded products from around the world, carefully selected based on quality, functionality, aesthetics, and safety.

We know pets are more than just animals, they are family members. That’s why we only choose products we would genuinely feel comfortable using for our own pets. We are constantly searching for innovative and well-designed products that help keep pets happy, healthy, and comfortable.

During our first three years, we did not spend any money on advertising. Every order came purely through organic search, word of mouth, and returning customers who trusted our product selection and service.

Everything changed in 2025.

As the business grew rapidly, we made the decision to leave our full-time jobs and focus on Shortie Friends full-time. At the same time, we needed more space to hold inventory and wanted a place where customers could physically experience the premium products we were bringing into Australia.

In August 2025, we opened our warehouse-style showroom in Silverwater, Sydney.

Today, the space operates both as our warehouse and our showroom, a place where customers can see, touch, compare, and try products in person. Whether it’s fitting a harness, checking product quality, or simply discovering new brands, we wanted to create a more personal shopping experience that is still quite rare in the Australian pet industry.

Since then, we have grown extremely quickly, and we believe we made the right decision. However, our goal has never changed: to continue curating quality pet products and offer the best possible value to our customers.

Today, we receive regular containers and shipments from China, Korea, Taiwan, the United States, Denmark and so on, allowing us to continuously introduce exciting products and brands from around the world.

Every item listed on our website is physically stocked in our Sydney warehouse and available to view in our showroom. This allows us to dispatch orders quickly, usually within 1 business day.

Customer service is also extremely important to us. We respond to emails and messages as quickly as possible, and we aim to make shopping with us easy and stress-free. We are generous with exchanges and returns because we want every customer to shop with confidence.
